Frenectomy
Have you ever heard the term “tongue tied”? This refers to a condition where the muscle attachment (frenum) between the tongue and the tissue on the floor of the mouth is abnormally positioned, resulting in limited tongue movement. These abnormal muscle attachments (frenum) can sometimes be found in other places within the oral cavity. Usually, they are not a problem. But every once in awhile they can lead to some pretty significant problems such as gum recession, gaps between teeth, and problems with ill-fitting dentures.
Your dentist may recommend a frenectomy to fix this problem. The frenectomy procedure involves repositioning the muscle attachments to a normal location.
